Deportations of Bangladeshis from Saudi keep soaring
The number of Bangladeshi workers' deportations from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has rocketed, with 1,610 deportees in first 16 days of New Year 2020.
A flight of Saudi Airlines carrying another 109 deported Bangladeshi labourers landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:20pm on Thursday.
In association with the Expatriate Welfare Desk at HSIA, Brac Migration Programme provided the workers emergency assistance.
The programme chief Shariful Hasan said Saudi Arabia sent back as many as 25,789 Bangladeshi workers from the country last year, and in the beginning of this year too 1,610 ones had to come back home.
About all of them returned home with empty-handed. There were also such people who went to the Middle East country for a better life but their hopes faded.
Shariful urged all to stand by the people in trouble so that they can turn around their lives.
The Brac Migration Programme wants to assist them with counseling, skill development training and financial assistance for their betterment, Shariful said, adding that government and non-government organizations together will have to do so.
