Mayor aspirant Ishraque's graft trial starts
A court in Dhaka has begun trial of BNP mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation Ishraque Hossain in a graft case.
Dhaka Special Court 4 judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam framed the charges against Ishraque, also son of late mayor of undivided Dhaka Sadeque Hossain Khoka.
The court also fixed February 9 for taking deposition of the witnesses in the case.
Lawyer for Ishraque sought court drops charges against him but the judge rejected the plea.
The DSCC mayor candidate was present in court and pleaded not guilty.
On December 6, 2018, investigation officer and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Jahangir Hossain submitted chargesheet against Ishraque before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan judge Styabrata Shikder.
On August 29, 2010, ACC then assistant director Samsul Alam lodged a lawsuit against him with Ramna Police Station for not submitting his wealth statements despite the anti-graft body asked him to submit the same.
