The High Court today directed the government to form a squad to stop ragging culture at all the educational institutions especially the universities and those affiliated colleges across the country.

The government was also asked to form an anti-ragging committee in three months.

The court issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain in four weeks why their failure to frame a guideline to prevent ragging at the educational institutions should not be declared illegal.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer advocate Ishrat Hasan on Wednesday seeking necessary order.

Secretaries to Home Ministry, Education Ministry and University Grants Commission (UGC) and other authorities concerned were made respondents to the rule.

October 9 last year, Supreme Court lawyer advocate Ishrat Hasan served legal notices to UGC and other authorities concerned to take measures to stop ragging.
