Maznu placed on 7-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a 7-day remand to Maznu in connection with the rape of Dhaka University (DU) student.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari on Thursday passed the order after DB police produced him before the court and prayed a 10-day remand for him.

Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Maznu from Shewra area in the capital early Wednesday.

In primary interrogation, the man has admitted that he is a serial rapist, said RAB.

On Sunday night, a second-year student of Dhaka University (DU) was raped in the city’s Kurmitola area.

Classmates of the victim said she had been picked up by an unidentified man after she got down from the university bus around 7pm and was made unconscious. Later, the miscreant took her to a nearby place and raped her.

The victim regained consciousness around 10pm and contacted her classmates. She was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around midnight.

On Monday, the victim’s father filed a case against unnamed person with Cantonment Police Station.
