DU student rape: Held Maznu is 'serial rapist'

The man who was arrested in connection with rape of a Dhaka University (DU) student is a serial rapist, claimed RAB.

In primary interrogation, the man has admitted that he was a serial rapist, said Sarwar Bin Kashem, media wing director of Rapid Action Battalion.

The elite force official made the disclosure at a press conference in city on Wednesday afternoon following the man, identified as Maznu, was captured from Gazipur's Tongi.

On Sunday evening, an unidentified man raped a DU student in city's Kurmitola area after forcefully picking up her from busy road to a nearby bush. 

Sarwar said drug addict Maznu from Hatia of Noakhali has earlier raped beggars and disabled women in the same area.

About the day of DU student's being raped, Sarwar said Maznu went to Kurmitola General Hospital on the day due to his mental sickness. 

While going out of the hospital, he saw the female student and targeted her for violating, the RAB official added. 

A hawker by profession, Maznu was also involved with several incidents of theft and snatching, Sarwar also said.
