A war-wounded freedom fighter in Shariatpur district has saved his three months' allowance given by the government to buy warm clothes for cold-hit poor people.

The liberation war survivor, Abdus Samad Talukder, distributed blanket among 100 people in the district town around 5:30pm on Saturday.

Deputy commissioner Kazi Abu Taher, local additional police superintendent Tanvir Haider Shawon and the district unit Awami League general secretary Anal Kumar De were present there.

Samad said his sense of responsibility to the locals affected by severe cold has led him to save freedom fighters' allowance to purchase winter clothes.

"As a freedom fighter, I have responsibility to stand by the people who experience severe cold. That is why I saved Tk 75,000 which I received as freedom fighters' allowance in three months and with this bought blanket for poor people," Samad said.

The freedom fighter also requested all to pray for him so that he can continue his such generosity in future too.

Locals said the 70-year-old war hero distributes warm clothes among poor people every winter.
