Dr Tapas loots KGH's Tk 14.36cr

Dr Tapas Kumar Sarker, resident medical officer (RMO) at Kushtia General Hospital, has allegedly looted a huge amount of Taka from the allotment of the hospital in 2018-19 financial year in the name of buying equipments.

The probe body formed by the Health Ministry on October 30 recommended divisional lawsuit against Dr Tapas as it found evidence of looting Tk 14.36 crore by the physician in initial investigation.

Alongside, Dr Tapas was also asked to showcause within 10 working days of receiving notice why measures should not be taken against him as per rules as his graft was found proved.

The notice said it was found in investigation that Tapas misappropriated Tk 14.36 crore allocated for the account of RPA (GOB) in hospital service management (HSM) operation plan in 2018-19 financial year in the name of purchasing equipments. 

The notice also read, "You (Dr Tapas) has been accused of committing corruption as your wrongdoing mentioned above goes against the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules 1979 and it is considered as corruption under section 3(B) and 3 (D) of Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018."

Remarks regarding this was sought from Dr Tapas, he told this correspondent that he received notice and responded to it.

Dr Nurun Nahar Begum, director of the hospital, said four people allegedly involved with lotting of government money have been served notice besides Dr Tapas.

Dr Tapas has been in Kushtia General Hospital for around four years as Resident Medical Officer. He has been promoted to higher positions but he held the same one, sources in the hospital said.
