War crimes verdict against Tipu Sultan Wednesday

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 will pronounce its verdict on Wednesday in a case filed against Rajshahi's Tipu Sultan on charge of committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War, 1971.

A three-member tribunal headed by its chairman Judge Md Shahinur Islam on Tuesday set Wednesday to deliver the verdict.

Earlier on October 17, the tribunal kept the verdict waiting after prosecution and defense both concluded their respective arguments in the case. 

Investigation report against the accused was finalized on March 27, 2018. Later, formal allegation was submitted and on August 8 of the same year he was charged.

Investigation coordinator Abdul Hannan Khan said Md Abdus Sattar alias Tipu Sultan was charged with murder of 10 people in Boalia upazila of Rajshahi, confining and torturing two as well as looting goods of 12-13 houses and set these on fire.
