Rumpa’s boyfriend Saikat placed on 4-day remand
Abdur Rahman Saikat, said to be an ex-boyfriend of Stamford University student Rubaiyat Sharmin Rumpa, has been placed on a four-day remand in a case filed over her mysterious death.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid on Sunday passed the order after the investigation officer of the case DB police inspector Akhtaruzzaman Ilias prayed a seven-day remand for Saikat.
On Saturday night, police detained Saikat and took him to the Detective Branch office for questioning over the death.
He was shown arrested today in a case filed with Ramna Police Station.
Twenty-one year old Rumpa, a second-year student at the English department of Stamford University Bangladesh, was found dead in the Siddheshwari area of the capital on Wednesday night.
Her father Rokanuddin is an inspector of a police outpost in Habiganj.
On Thursday, police filed a murder case with Ramna Police Station over the incident and sent the victim’s body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Rumpa might have been raped before being murdered, said the forensic doctor who performed an autopsy on her body.
The girl’s hands, legs, waist and spinal cord were fractured, he added.
