MP Liton murder: 7 including Kader Khan get death

A court in Gaibandha on Thursday sentenced former Jatiya Party lawmaker Abdul Kader Khan and six others to death in the former Awami League MP Liton murder case.

Gaibandha District and Sessions Judge Dilip Kumar Bhoumik delivered the verdict around 11:45am.

The six condemned convicts are Mehedi, Shamsuzzoha, Abdul Hannan, Shahin, Rana and Chandan. Among them, Chandan Kumar is fugitive and the rest are in jail.

Manzurul Islam Liton, then lawmaker from Gaibandha-1 constituency, was shot dead by miscreants at her home in Sundarganj upazila on December 31, 2016.

After the murder, police lodged an arms case and a murder case in this connection.

Earlier, court sentenced former MP Kader Khan, sole accused in the arms case, to life term imprisonment. 

On April 30, 2017, police submitted charge sheet against the accused of the murder case.

Kasai Subal, no. eight accused in the case, has recently died in India due to illness.

A total 59 witnesses have testified in the case before court.
