BNP leader held over clash in front of SC
Police have arrested the president of Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal Ishtiaq Ulfat in a case lodged over vehicles vandalizm and attack on police in front of the Supreme Court (SC).
He was arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 2:15am on Wednesday, confirmed DMP Ramna division deputy commissioner Sazzadur Rahman.
Earlier on Tuesday night, police filed the case against unidentified around 500 leaders and activists of BNP with Shahbagh Police Station over attack on police and vehicle vandalizm. Ulfat was arrested in the case, Sazzadur added.
Sources in BNP said Ishtiaq was going to Malaysia by a flight at nght and from there he was supposed to go to USA but police nabbed him.
Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, BNP leaders and activists led by the party vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman suddenly took position at the main gate of the Supreme Court (SC) demanding release of Khaleda Zia from jail.
The former Prime Minister is now serving in jail for corruption involving the Zia Orphanage Trust.
A chase and counter-chase occurred among BNP leaders and activists and police there. During this, incident of vandalizing vehicles took place.
Police, later, baton charged the BNP men and fired tear gas to dispurse the agitators and bring the situation under control.
