26 BUET students expelled for life over Abrar murder

Twenty six students of Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) have been expelled permanently over the murder of their fellow Abrar Fahad. 

Six other students have also been expelled from the university for different terms for violating university discipline. 

BUET Board of Residence and Discipline took the decision based on report of probe body formed to look into Abrar murder. 

The decision was disclosed at a notice signed by director of BUET students' welfare Dr Mizanur Rahman on Thursday. 

Permanently expelled students are Mehedi Hassan Rasel, Muhtasim Fuad, Anik Sarker, Mehedi Hasan Robein, Ifti Mosharraf Shakal, Moniruzzaman Monir, Meftahul Islam Zion, Mazedur Rahman, Muzahidur Rahman, Khandaker Tabakhkharul Islam Tanvir, Hossain Mohammad Toha, Md Akash Hossain, Md Shamim Billah, ASM Nazmus Sadat, Ehtesamul Rabbi Tanim, Morshed Amartya Islam, Moaz Abu Huraira, Muntasir Al Jemi, Amit Saha, Muztaba Rafid, Ishtiaq Ahmed Munna, Shamsul Arefin, Mizanur Rahman, SM Mahmud, Morshed-uz-Jaman Mondal and Ashiqul Islam.

Those expelled for different terms are Abu Nawshad Shakib, Md Saiful Islam, Mohammad Galib, Md Shawon Mia, Sakhawat Iqbal Ovi, and Md Ismail.

Abrar Fahad, 21, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department and a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET was mercilessly beaten to death allegedly by some leaders and activists of the university unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on suspicion of 'Shibir' activist at the night of October 6 over a facebook post where he criticized some deals between Bangladesh and India. 

Later, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah lodged a case with Chawkbazar Police Station against 19 BUET students in this connection. 

Detective and Criminal Intelligence Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has, so far, arrested 21 accused in the case. Among them, 16 are named in statement.

Detectives on November 13 submitted chargesheet in Abrar Fahad murder case accusing 25 people.
