70 sacks of rotten onion dumped under bridge
Seventy sacks of rotten onion have been dumped under a bridge in Daudkandi upazila.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Dauadkandi Quamrul Islam Khan said he was informed that ‘Bhai Bhai Enterprise’ at Gauripur Bazar dumped 60-70 maunds of rotten onion under the bridge on Sunday night.
These onions were imported from Myanmar, he said.
Md Jamal Hossain, a trader at Gauripur Bazar, said whereas low-income people are struggling to buy onion for its soaring price, a section of shady traders stockpiles the cooking ingredient to make hefty profit. “In the process, onions are getting rotten,” he said, reports UNB.
Md Asadul Islam, assistant director of the local office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, said they will investigate the matter and necessary legal measures will be taken accordingly.
