Ex-govt official gets 16-yr in jail for fake FF certificate

A former government revenue official has been sentenced to 16 years in jail on charge of submitting a false freedom fighter certificate. 

Jailed Moniruzzaman is the former revenue officer at Customs, Excise & VAT Commissionerate in Dhaka. He hails from Tebaria village in Saturia upazila of Manikganj district. 

Judge Shahidul Islam of Dhaka Special Judges' Court handed down the verdict against Moniruzzaman on Tuesday.

The court also issued arrest warrant against the former revenue official as he is fugitive.

Public Prosecutor (PP) of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Reza confirmed the matter to Jago News.

Moniruzzaman got the job of assistant revenue officer under the freedom fighter quota on May 11, 2014. He submitted a false freedom fighter certificate during his examination process. 

On July, 2014, ACC decided to investigate the matter after getting some allegations against him. ACC in January of 2015 lodged a case against Moniruzzaman on charge of forgery. In 2016, a charge sheet was submitted against him and the court also framed charges.
