Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday asked the local administration and public representatives to provide immediate assistance to the victims in train accident in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria. 

The premier expressed grief over the deaths of at least 16 people in the accident and also wished the speedy recovery of the injured, PM’s press wing said in a press statement.

However, three probe bodies - two by Bangladesh Railway and one by district administration - have been formed to look into the incident.

Railway secretary Mofazzel Hossain confirmed that two probe bodies have been formed from the office of Railway director general, and from the office of Railway East Zone general manager. 

The district administration also formed a three-member investigation committee to find the actual cause of the incident, said deputy commissioner Hayat-ud-Doula Khan.

At least 16 people were killed and more than 100 others injured in a collision between two passenger trains - inter-city ‘Udayan Express’ and ‘Turna Nishitha’ at the crossing of Mandabhag Station on Dhaka-Chattogram Railway in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria around 2:45am.
