‘Bulbul’ destroys 50,000 houses in Satkhira

As many as 50,000 houses were damaged in the coastal areas of Satkhira district as the severe cyclone ‘Bulbul’ made a landfall in Khulna and adjoining southwestern part of the country early Sunday.

Gabura, Burigoalini and Padmapukur unions of costal upazila Shyamnagar witnessed massive damages. 

Gabura UP chairman Gm Masudul Alam said around 5,000 houses, most are made of earth and some tin shed, here were destroyed due to the storm ‘Bulbul’.

Communication system were suspended as trees were uprooted on roads and fish enclosures inundated, he added.

Abu Hena Shakil, chairman of Shriula Union Parishad under Assasuni upazila, said storm 'Bulbul' ruined thousands of houses. But no casualties were reported in the union, added.

Prashanta Kumar Roy, an official of Satkhira district control room, to Jago News that gusty wind and cyclonic storm completely destroyed around 50,000 mud houses and partly destroyed about 33,660 houses across the district.

No casualties were reported anywhere in the district, the official added.
