Cyclone ‘Bulbul’: Sexagenarian dies after tree falls on house

A 65-year-old man has died in Patuakhali after a tree fell on his house during gusty wind under the influence of cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’ that made landfall in Bangladesh early Sunday.

Deceased Hamed Fikir was a resident of North Rampur area in Mirzaganj upazila.

Mirzaganj Police Station officer in-charge Md Shawkat Islam confirmed the matter.

Md Golam Sarwar, assistant commissioner of deputy commissioner’s office, said they learned an elderly man died in house collapse during gusty wind under the influence of cyclone ‘Bulbul’. 

Several team of the district administration are working to assess the loss resulted from the cyclone, he added.

Bashir Ahmed, officer in-charge of Patuakhali Met office, said cyclone ‘Bulbul’ lashed coastal area early hours of the day when wind speed was 33 kilometers per hour.

The cyclone damaged trees and mud built houses in different parts of the district.

About 140 millimeter rain was recorded from Saturday morning to Sunday 6am.

Cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’ completed crossing the West Bengal-Khulna coast near the Sundarbans around 5am today and now lying over Khulna and adjoining southwestern part of the country.
