Students vow to continue protest seeking JU VC’s removal
A section of students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) started demonstration on the campus on Wednesday morning demanding removal of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam, reports UNB.
They brought out a procession from Murad Chattar around 10:30am and stopped in front of the old administrative building after marching through the campus.
Later, they staged a sit-in protest in front of the administrative building. A number of teachers also expressed solidarity and joined them.
Students also demanded punishment those involved in Tuesday’s attack which left at least 35 people injured.
The protesters announced to defy the administration’s order to vacate the residential halls and continue their demonstration demanding ouster of Prof Farzana Islam, said Mushfiqur Salehin, one of the organisers of the protest.
Earlier in the morning, they locked the administrative building, stopping the administrative activities.
Authorities shut down the university for an indefinite period following a clash between protesters and ‘VC-backed teachers and Chhatra League men’.
