Writ seeks ban on ragging, student politics

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court (HC) seeking its directives to ban the ragging and student politics at all public and private universities.

Supreme Court lawyer Younus Ali Akand on Sunday filed the petition with the concerned department of the HC and also sought adequate compensation for the family of BUET student Abrar Fahad, who was beaten to death by Chhatra League activists on Sunday.

Secretaries to the cabinet ministry, home ministry, law ministry, Awami League president, BNP president, BUET VC, DU VC and five other people were made defendants in the petition.

To be noted, BUET on Friday imposed a ban on all kinds of political activities on the campus and temporarily expelled 19 students for their alleged involvement in the Abrar Fahad murder.
