Abrar murder: BUET teachers, students bring out silent procession

The students and teachers of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department of Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) brought out a silent procession on the campus on Wednesday morning demanding the exemplary punishment of Abrar Fahad’s killers.

Abrar, 21, a second year student of EEE department and a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET was pronounced dead on Monday after he was mercilessly beaten allegedly by some BCL activists of the university unit.

Earlier on Tuesday, several hundred BUET students came out of dormitories and gathered in front of the university’s central cafeteria and placed their eight-point demand which includes capital punishment to the killers, expulsion of all the accused from the university, and a ban on organisation-based politics on the campus.

So far, police arrested 12 leaders and activists of BCL in connection with the killing of Abrar. Abrar’s father filed a case against 19 BCL men with Chawkbazar Police Station.

A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted a five-day remand for each of the 10 accused who were arrested on Monday.
