Huji top leader who met with bin Laden arrested in Dhaka
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three members of the banned militant outfit Harkatul Jihad Bangladesh (HuJi-B), including its top leader.
They were arrested in the field area adjacent to the Boro Mosque of Nikunj-2 in the capital on Wednesday.
In a press statement, DMP’s Mass Media and Public Relations Department confirmed the matter to Jago News on Thursday.
The arrestees are - Md. Atiqullah alias Asadullah alias Zulfiqar, 49, Md Borhan Uddin Rabbani, 42, and Mohammad Nazim Uddin alias Shamim, 43.
In the initial interrogation, Md. Atiqullah said he was the organizing secretary of the committee formed by HuJi’s Mufti Hannan in 1996 and later was in charge of the Baitul Mal and International Relations Department of HuJi. He held several meetings with top leaders, including Osama bin Laden, Mullah Omar, Ayman al-Zawahiri, during the war in Afghanistan.
A case was filed against the arrestees under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Khilkhet Police Station.
