DNCC launches drive to free roads, footpaths
The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Sunday removed over a hundred illegal establishments as part of an eviction drive to free the roads and footpaths from illegal encroachment from Sonargaon Janapath in the city’s Uttara, reports UNB.
Mayor Atiqul Islam led the drive in different sectors of Uttara alongside executive magistrates and DNCC workers.
Inaugurating the drive, Atiqul said more areas under DNCC will be freed of illegal occupation.
“I’m monitoring the whole matter myself. After freeing Uttara, such drives will be launched in other areas,” he said, noting that the drives will be conducted area-wise.
“If we pick an area to start evicting illegal structures from roads and footpaths, we shall finish it even if it takes five to 10 days,” he added.
On September 17, the DNCC mayor announced the eviction drive to remove illegal establishment from the streets of DNCC at a meeting at the Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan-2.
