‘Robber ringleader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’
An alleged robber ringleader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) at ChairarDeil of Matarbari union in Moheshkhali upazila here early Monday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Quader Rana, 34, son of Nurul Haque of the area.
Md Mashqur Rahman, assistant superintendent of police (ASP)of Rab-7, said tipped off that a robber gang gathered in the area for committing robbery, a patrol team of Rab-7 raided the area around 4am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on Rab men, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that led to a gunfight, the ASP added.
Later, Rab members rescued Nurul with bullet injuries and took him to Moheshkhali Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, he said.
Rab men recovered seven firearms, including a foreign pistol, and 63 rounds of bullet from the spot.
Mashqur said Nurul looted valuables from two shipping trawlers named MV Ma Babar Doa and MV Mahin in the Bay of Bengal in Hatia upazila of Noakhali on August 26.
