Thousands suffer as CU shuttle train service suspended

Thousands of students suffered as the shuttle train service was halted after a factional clash of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the Chittagong University campus early Sunday, reports UNB. 

Sources said the train driver was kidnapped from Soloshohor Rail Station area around 8:30am following the clash. The service has remained suspended since then.

Railway Police Station (GRP) Officer-in-Charge Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan confirmed the driver’s abduction. “We’re trying to rescue him,” he said.

Five people were injured in the turf war between two groups - Bijoy and CFC - on the campus.

The injured are - Md Ilias of Islamic studies department, Obidur Rahman Limon of Islamic history and culture, Niloy Hasan of public administration, Mahfuzur Rahman of statistics, and Priyam Roy Pranto of geography and environment.

Acting Proctor Pranab Mitra Chowdhury said he had heard about the clash. “The train service was halted after the driver was abducted following the clash,” he said. “The authorities concerned have asked police to take necessary action.”
