President off to London for health check-up
President M Abdul Hamid left here for London this morning for health check-up and treatment of eyes, reports BSS.
A VVIP flight (BG-001) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the President took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:45 am.
The head of the state is scheduled to conduct his check-up at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, acting dean of diplomatic corps and Turkish envoy in Dhaka Devrim Ozturk, cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, chiefs of the three services, prime minister’s principal secretary, foreign secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), home secretary, acting British high commissioner to Bangladesh Kanbar Hossein Bor, and civil and military high officials concerned saw him off at the VVIP Lounge of the airport.
The President is scheduled to return home on September 8, President’s deputy press secretary Abul Kalam Azad told BSS.
Earlier, the 75-year-old President Hamid underwent health check-up there in May last this year.
Abdul Hamid has been suffering from Glaucoma since long. He used to have his health check-up in London while he was the Speaker in the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament).
