Padma Bridge to be completed within 2021: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said, the construction work of the Padma Bridge will be completed within June of 2021.

The minister said this at the Secretariat on Thursday.

Finance Division and Bangladesh Bridge Authority signed an agreement on the payment of the loan of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge at the Secretariat in presence of the Minister.

“Eighty-three percent of the bridge’s main work is completed,” he said.

The national economy is expected to witness 1.2 percent GDP growth rate, while 0.84 percent poverty will be reduced every year after the completion of the bridge.

A total of 41 spans - each 150-metres-long - will be placed on the 42 pillars of the 6.15 kilometre bridge.

Work on the country’s largest bridge started in December 2015.
