2 ‘criminals’ killed in ‘gunfights’ in Chattogram, Gazipur

Two suspected criminals were killed in Gazipur and Chattogram early Thursday, in what the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) described as gunfights, reports UNB.

Rab identified the man killed in Gazipur as arms dealer Sujon Mia, son of Chand Mia of Tongi area.

Rab-1 said one of its teams raided Salna of the city around 1:45am after being tipped-off that firearms were being sold there illegally.

Members of the elite force came under fire as soon as they reached the spot. In the ensuing skirmish, Sujon sustained gunshot wounds but others managed to flee, Rab said.

He was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Two locally-made guns, nine cartridges and 1,200 Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.

Sujon was wanted in 13 criminal cases, said Rab.

In Chattogram, a gunfight took place when a Rab patrol was attacked around 4am at Kothbaria in Bhujpur upazila.

Rab-7 Assistant Director Mashqur Rahman said a body bearing gunshot wounds, an AK-22 rifle and 63 bullets were recovered from the spot after the skirmish.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. The body was sent to a local hospital for autopsy.
