Aedes larvae found in over 1,000 structures in 4 days: DNCC

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has claimed that it found the larvae of Aedes mosquitoes in over 1,000 houses and structures under its 36 wards in the last four days since August 25, UNB reports.

“The larvae of Aedes mosquitoes have been found in 1,029 houses and structures after visiting 42,494 under 36 wards in four days since August 25 last,” said a DNCC media release on Wednesday.

Besides, stagnant waters -- considered as the breeding points of Aedes mosquitoes -- were found in other 21,135 houses and structures there during the period.

The DNCC continues its combing operation and mobile court drive to check the spread of Aedes mosquitoes that carry dengue virus.

On the 4th day of the combing operation, DNCC teams visited 10,578 houses and structures and found the larvae of Aedes mosquitoes in 225 on Wednesday.

Sticker, inscribing with ‘Aedes larvae found’ have been pasted on the walls of the 225 structures.

Besides, the DNCC teams found stagnant waters in 6,136 structures and destroyed the breeding grounds.

Councillor of each ward has been actively supervising the combing operation, said the release.

The mobile court fined the representative of Bishal Plaza in Moghbazar Tk 50,000 as larvae were found on its basement. It fined the representative of BTI, a real estate company, Tk 2 lakh for keeping construction materials on nearby road.

In Uttara area, the mobile court fined two automobile companies a total of Tk 30,000 for occupying roads with their materials.

The mobile court also fined the representative of ‘Bay Developers’ company in Gulshan Tk 5 lakh.
