Shafiqul Islam made new DMP commissioner
The Additional Inspector General of Police, Shafiqul Islam, has been made Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday. His appointment was announced through a communique from the Home Ministry.
Shafiqul Islam, who was serving as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) before being DMP commissioner, was also a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at his student life.
The new commissioner will be replacement of Md Asaduzzaman Mia, whose tenure expired on August 13 this year but was given an extension of a month more on the post from August 14.
Shafuqul Islam entered police service in 1989 from Wider Kushtia district. He had been transferred in the unreachable areas of the country as punishment in the BNP’s tenure but was awarded with vital designations in the ruling government’s tenure.
