Two rape suspects killed in ‘crossfire’
Two men, suspected of raping a schoolgirl, were killed in an alleged crossfire at Dakshin Rajapur village in Sadar upazila on early Wednesday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Alamin, 25, son of Sayed Ahmed; and Manju, 30, son of Kalam Mistry. They were residents of Char Samaiya union of the upazila, said Sub-Inspector Shikor of Bhola Model Police Station.
Alamin had been living near the house of the victim for nearly three years. The father of the rape victim also confirmed identity of the rape suspects at the Sadar Hospital.
Sarkar Mohammad Kaiser, the district’s police chief, said a police team went to Dakshin Rajapur village around 2:30am after hearing sounds of gunshots.
“Criminals opened fire as soon as the policemen arrived, triggering a gunfight. Two of the criminals were killed,” Kaiser said.
Alamin and Manju are accused of gang-raping a sixth grader female student in Char Sifali village of the Sadar upazila on Sunday night.
The girl was initially taken to Bhola Sadar Hospital in critical condition. She is undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
