Child missing after speed boat capsises in Padma

A child went missing after a speed boat sank in the Padma River on Tuesday morning, reports UNB.

The young boy was identified as Deen Islam Hossain, 8, son of Siddiqur Rahman of Mollar Hawla village in Kauarchar of Barishal.

Md Aminul Islam, in-charge of Mawa River Police camp, said a speed boat overturned because of strong wind while going to Kathalbari terminal from Shimulia around 8am.

It was carrying 19 passengers.

Other speed boats rescued 18 passengers but Deen Islan remained missing, Aminul said. Members of Bangladesh Army, Fire Service and River Police are scouring the river.

The eight-year-old, a grade three student, was going to his village home with his father Siddiqur Rahman and uncle Babul Hawlader from Dhaka.
