Cow-laden truck plunged to ditch leaving 2 dead

There were two cow-traders killed after a truck laden with cattle plunged to ditch at Zoka area of Manikganj district on Dhaka-Paturia highway on Monday morning. Another 7 people were injured from the accident.

The deceased people were identified as Manoar Sheikh, 23, son of Houska Sheikh from Islamic University area of Kustia and Obaydul Mondol, 42, son of Daad Ali Mondol from the same area.

It was known that, the traders had gone to Gabtali cattle hat carrying 60 cows to sell but they were able to sell 49 of them. As they were getting back to their home town with rest of the cows, in the dead hours of the day, it was plunged to ditch when the driver lost his control on the truck arriving the area, leaving 2 dead on the spot.

At the incident, the money, earned from cow-sale were also lost, the other traders claimed.

There were 18 people on board in the truck including traders and herders who were rescued and sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital. It was seemed that, as the driver was sleeping sitting on the driving seat, resulting the truck was plunged, but the driver and helper were able to escape immediately, said Yameen-ud-Dowla, Incharge of Barangail highway police.
