Dhaka’s rail links with north, south restart
The capital’s rail communications with the northern and southern districts have been restarted after remaining suspended since Friday noon after the derailment of Khulna-bound Sundarban Express at the eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge.
Masum Ali Khan, station master of Bangabandhu Bridge’s eastern part, said two wheels of the Sundarban Express derailed around 1:30pm.
A salvage train is coming from Dhaka, he said, adding that it would take a while to restore the communication.
The accident left Rajshahi-bound Dhumketu Express stuck on the eastern side of the bridge.
Harunor Mazumder, officer-in-charge, Sirajganj Railway Police (GRP), said Dhaka-bound Silk City Express was also stranded on the western side of the bridge.
