Two people, including a minor boy, died after being diagnosed with dengue in the capital and Barishal on Friday.

In the capital, Mehraz Hasan, 8, breathed his last around 8:59 am at the United Hospital, said sources at the hospital.

In Barisal, Mujibur Rahman Mollah, 52, died of dengue while undergoing treatment at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital around 2 am.

Mujibor, also the general secretary of Barguna Rifles Club, was admitted to the hospital around 11:30 pm on Thursday, said Dr Bakir Hossain, director of the hospital.

Mujibor came here with fever from Dhaka, he said.

A total of 2,326 people infected with dengue were hospitalised across the country in 24 hours till Thursday morning, showing a slight fall in the number of such patients than Wednesday’s 2,428.

However, a college girl identified as KhaledaParvin, 25, a degree student of MadhukhaliGovtAinuddin College in Faridpur died of dengue at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on Thursday morning.

Of the new dengue cases, 1,158 were reported from the capital alone with one suffering from dengue hemorrhagic, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Since the beginning of its outbreak this year, 34,666 patients were hospitalised with dengue and 25,872 discharged after recovery, according to the DGHS data.

At least 8,765 patients, including children, are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals and of them, 5,140 are in Dhaka.
