Eid holidaymakers start leaving capital
With only three days left for the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslims, the city dwellers have started leaving capital to celebrate their Eid holidays with their near and dear ones.
Witnesses said Eid holidaymakers were seen to wait at Gabtoli, Sayedabad and Mohakhali bus terminals, Kamalapur and airport railway stations, Sadarghat launch terminals for their expected transports and water vessels to reach their desired destinations.
Bus terminals, launch ghats and railway stations in Dhaka city are witnessing huge crowd on the last working day today ahead of Eid. Though there is pressure of passengers and vehicles on highways, but the home-goers will face lesser traffic jam on the roads due to the various steps taken by the government.
Today, was the last day of office while Friday and Saturday are weekly holidays and the three-day Eid-ul-Azha holidays (dependant on moon sighting) will start from August 11.
Most bus counters and terminals witnessed a mad rush today since afternoon. Buses of almost all counters, trains and launches left respective venues in
Dhaka for their scheduled places with the home-bound people timely, according to reports reached here from different parts of the city. Some people also chose airways to reach their home.
Kamalapur Station witnessed heavy crowds today compared to last few days as the government and private service holders are leaving for home after completing their office works on the last working day.
Sadarghat launch terminal also witnessed a huge crowd today. Rush of home-bound people were seen from Gulisthan to Sadarghat area. Identical scenarios were also found at Shimulia and Mawa ghats.
Most of the people are crossing rivers by launches. Massive security measures have been taken at waterways. Dhaka Metropolitan Police, River Police, coastguards and RAB are providing all-out security to the home-bound people to ensure hassle-free Eid journey.
Meanwhile, the vigilance and monitoring teams of the government remain active at all stations and terminals to oversee the situation for ensuring smooth Eid journey for the passengers.
