All preparations taken to ensure smooth eid journeys, says Quader
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday said the government has taken all-out preparations for ensuring the smooth journeys of homebound people, reports UNB.
The minister said this while talking to reporters after a meeting on safe eid journeys at the Secretariat.
About the growing concern over dengue spread, Obaidul Quader said the two city corporations have been requested to take necessary steps for destroying mosquitoes at bus terminals and while bus owners asked to provide mosquito repellants in their buses.
Besides, the movement of all heavy vehicles, including trucks and covered vans, on highways will remain suspended three days before the Eid-ul-Azha but the vehicles carrying export items and perishable goods will remain out of the purview of the ban.
Meanwhile, the authorities concerned have been asked to make the roads and highways damaged during the recent floods fit again before Eid.
The meeting decided not to allow cattle market beside the highways for avoiding traffic congestion, he said.
He also sought assistance from public representatives, local administration and police to take necessary steps for avoiding public harassment for cattle market.
Obaidul also asked the traders to refrain from carrying cattle in unfit vehicles.
Besides, vigilance team will remain active at terminals for checking irregularities while mobile courts will conduct drives to check collection excess fares from passengers, he said.
At the request of BGMEA, the minister said, 151 buses have been allocated for transporting garment workers, including 20 in Chattogram alone.
