‘Drug trader’ killed in Gazipur ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Pubail in the city early Friday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam Naju, son of Mostafa of Tongi area.
Tipped off that 6-7 drug traders were gathering in the area, a team of Rab-1 conducted a drive around 2:30 am, said Assistant superintendent of Rab -1 Kamruzzaman.
Sensing presence of the elite force members, the criminals opened fire on the Rab men, prompting them to fire back.
Nazrul sustained bullet injuries as he was caught in the line of fire while the others managed to flee.
Later, he was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Nazrul was wanted in 12 cases, said Rab.
One pistol, one magazine, one bullet, three shot guns and some Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.
