HC rule over N’ganj teacher humiliation

The High Court (HC) on Wednesday issued a rule upon the government to explain in two weeks as to why it should not be directed to take necessary legal actions against local lawmaker Selim Osman and others who humiliated a schoolteacher of Narayanganj.

An HC bench of Justice Md Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir issued the suo moto rule in the afternoon.

The ruling was issued after lawyers MK Rahman and Mohsin Rashid brought to the court’s notice newspaper articles about humiliation the school teacher had been subjected to, Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju said.

The home secretary, Narayanganj deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, Bandar police OC and upazila nirbahi officer have been asked to respond within two weeks.

On Friday, the headmaster of a school was beaten up and forced to do squats holding his ears with both hands in presence of local lawmaker Salim Osman.
