Weeklong awareness campaign against rumours from Thursday: IGP
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwari on Wednesday announced that a weeklong campaign will start from Thursday across the country to make people alert about rumors, reports UNB.
“People responsible for spreading rumours will be dealt with iron hand, no matter who are they and how strong they are?” said the IGP while speaking at a press briefing held at the Police Headquarters.
He said the first rumour about Padma Bridge came from Dubai at the same conference.
The police boss said a vested group are spreading rumours to turn the country’s overall situation into unstable.
The first post about Padma Bridge came from Dubai as a man from the country made the post, he said.
He said, a total of 103 people were arrested so far over the rumours and lynching incidents.
Police identified some anti-government people who are spreading rumours after failing in different movements. They are trying to spread rumors from outside the country, the police boss said.
He said a total of 60 facebook accounts, 25 youtube links and 10 web portals have been closed down which was used to spread rumours.
