Suspended ACC Director Basir sent to jail
A Dhaka court has ordered Khandaker Enamul Basir, suspended director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to send jail who was arrested over the charges of allegedly leaking confidential information and taking bribery from DIG Mijan.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Court has issued the order when he was produced in the court by police on Tuesday. Attending the court, Sheikh Muhammad Fanafillah who is also the investigating officer to the charge sought detention for Basir until the probe be completed.
A team of the national anti-graft body picked him up from his Darus Salam residence in the city around 10:15pm on Monday over a charge of tk 40-lakh bribery scandal, said ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
He said Basir will be kept at Ramna Police Station overnight.
The arrest came six days after the ACC filed a case against Basir and suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman over the Tk 40-lakh bribery scandal.
Sheikh Mohammad Fanafillah, ACC director and also the leader of the investigation team, filed the case with Dhaka-1 coordinated district office under the Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday last.
Earlier, the ACC gave its approval to filing of the case against them.
A private TV channel reported recently that Mizan gave Tk 40 lakh to Enamul Basir to get clean chit in a corruption case.
Basir was suspended on June 10 for allegedly leaking information, a breach of job discipline.
Besides, Mizan was shown arrested in the case on Sunday.
