Traffic Sergeant hit by Jamuna Group covered van dies

A Sergeant of traffic police was hit by a covered van owned by Jamuna Group in Barishal died on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). 

The deceased is Golam Kibria, traffic sergeant of Barishal Metropolitan Police, hailed from Patuakhali. 

Sub Inspector of DMCH police outpost Abdul Khan confirmed the death to Jago News.

According to source, Kibria was hit at Kanrnakathi Gero Point on Barishal-Patuakhali highway in front of Barishal University when he was maintaining traffic on Monday. A reckless covered van bearing registration number Dhaka Metro EU-12-2054 which is owned by Jamuna Group hit him around 12 pm when a signal to stop was shown at that point.

The covered van breached traffic signal and fled hurry. Golam Kibrial followed ridding on a motor-bike and got after the covered van until it was stopped. When he tried to stop standing in front of the covered van, it hit and ran away over him while he was impaired by legs and urinal.

He was recovered by locals and sent to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. Later he was flown by a special air ambulance to DMCH where he died.

A case alleging attempt to murder was filed with Bandar thana against Mohammad Jalil Mia, driver of the covered van later Monday by Robiul Islam, Inspector of traffic police of Barisha Metropolitan.
