Landslide kills 2 in Kaptai

Two people were killed in Raikhali Union in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati district when a landslide collapsed on a running CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Saturday around 11 am. 

The deceased were identified as Ajay Borua and Sujoy Mong Marma.

Additional Superintended of Police (Kaptai Circle) of Rangamati Muhammad Junayed Kawsar confirmed the deaths to Jago News.

Locals said, it was raining over the area since afternoon on Friday but started to pour heavy shower since this dawn resulting softened the soil of the nearby hills. Subsequently, the softened soil of a hill fell on the CNG-run auto-rickshaw killing two passengers on the spot. Due to the blocked with plunged mud on the road interrupted the rescue operation despite a rescue team responded immediately.

Ashraf Ahmed Rasel, Kaptai Upazila Nirbahi Officer, a portion of a hill collapsed on a running auto-rickshaw resulting two people covered with mud there, he heard. He was going to the spot when responding to a call from Jago News.

To be noted, two people including a child were killed in a landslide that happened on 8 July at Kalabagan Mali Colony area of the upazila.
