Pay Tk 45 lakh to Russel by June 25, HC to Green Line
The High Court has expressed anger to Green Line Paribahan authorities as they violated its order over compensation of Russel Sarkar who lost his left leg after a bus of the paribahan ran over him in April last year.
The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order during hearing a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Umme Kulsum seeking its order for compensating the victim.
The court ordered the Paribahan authorities to pay the remaining Tk 45 lakh to Russel Sarkar as per its earlier order by June 25.
“We don’t want to be harsh but don’t compel us to become tough,” the court said.
During hearing Advocate Ozi-Ullah withdrew himself as a lawyer for Green Line Paribahan, he told the court that he will not defend the transport company as it did not communicate with him.
Earlier on April 10, Green Line Paribahan paid Taka five lakh to Russel Sarker and got one month time more to pay the remaining 45 lakh fixed by High Court.
Russel, 23, a private car driver, lost his leg on 28 April last year as a bus of Green Line Paribahan had hit his vehicle from behind on Hanif Flyover in Dholaipar on that day. He got down from his car and signaled the bus to stop but driver Kabir Hossain drove his coach over him and fled the scene. Russel's left leg got severed from his thigh down.
