China to play constructive role in resolving Rohingya crisis

China has showed its willingness to play constrictive role to realize repatriation of forcefully displaced Rohingya from Bangladesh.

As part of it, China will facilitate communication between Bangladesh and Myanmar to find a practical solution of the crisis.

These were asserted by Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Zuo while he paying a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Dr A.K. Abdul Momen at foreign ministry in Dhaka.

While appreciating Chinese humanitarian assistance for the displaced people of Rakhine State, Foreign Minister Dr. Momen sought China’s strong support so that Myanmar moves in the right direction for resolving the Rohingya crisis.

The Foreign Minister and the Ambassador shared their concerns that protracted presence of Rohingyas in Bangladesh may disrupt the regional peace and stability as vested quarters are trying to radicalise the displaced people.

“Therefore they underscored the need for early repatriation of the displaced people,” a foreign ministry press release said.

Ambassador Zhang underlined the importance of the bilateral consultation mechanisms to steer the practical cooperation between Bangladesh and China.

Momen appreciated that many bilateral instruments worth billions of dollar investment were signed during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit here in 2016 while the bilateral relationship between the two nations elevated to strategic partnership.
