The High Court (HC) has directed the authorities concerned to immediately remove from the market 52 food products which are found substandard by Bangladesh Standard Testing Institution (BSTI).

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al Jalil on Sunday passed the order following a writ petition filed by the Conscious Consumers Society (CCS).

The court also ordered to stop production, selling or marketing of these substandard products and to take appropriate legal action against the persons responsible for producing, selling, marketing and supplying the products.

The court asked BSTI, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA), and Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) to take immediate action regarding the matter and submit a report with May 23.

To be noted, the CCS filed a writ petition on May 9, seeking necessary order on the government to seize or withdraw the substandard foods from the market from all over the country, as it did not get any reply to a legal notice served on the authorities concerned on May 6.
