‘Criminal’ killed in Chattogram ‘gunfight’ with cops
A suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Bakalia here early Sunday hours after killing a woman, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Shah Alam.
Shah Md Abdur Rouf, Additional Deputy Commissioner (South), Chattogram Metropolitan Police said Shah Alam had been at loggerheads with Hasan, a local youth, for long.
Shah Alam went to Hasan’s aunt’s house in Bojroghona Madina Mosque area around 10pm on Saturday in search of Hasan. As he was not there, Shah Alam got furious and attempted to shoot Hasan’s cousin Rubel.
Being obstructed by Rubel’s elder sister Bubli Akther, 28, Alam shot her, leaving her critically injured, he said.
The injured was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Later, a team of police conducted a drive in Bolirhat area adjacent to the Karnaphuli River around 3:30am to arrest Shah Alam.
When the police team reached there, Alam’s associates opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight. Alam was found dead on the spot after the gunfight.
Police recovered three rounds of bullets and a pistol.
Meanwhile, police also arrested two suspects Nurul Alam and Nabi of Barishal Bazar area under Chandgaon police station at night in connection with the murder of the woman.
