‘Fani’ to remain over country for more 3-4 hours: Met office

The cyclonic storm Fani is now located over the capital and its adjoining areas with a maximum wind speed about 62-88 kph as it will remain over the country as a deep depression for more next 3 to 4 hours, said a met official, reports BSS. 

“The cyclonic storm Fani is now sweeping over the capital and its adjacent areas … it is likely to stay over the country for more 3 to 4 hours,” Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD director Shamsuddin Ahmed told BSS this afternoon.

Earlier a latest special weather bulletin said the cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ over Satkhira, Jashore and Khulna regions and adjoining areas moved north-northeastwards further and is located over Faridpur-Dhaka region and adjoining areas.

It is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction further inland over Bangladesh, it said.

Under the influence of the cyclonic storm ‘Fani’, gusty or squally wind with maximum speed of about 62-88 kilometers is likely to continue over the country and North Bay as sea will remain very rough, it added.

Maritime ports of Mongla and Pyra have been advised to keep hoisting danger signal number seven while costal districts of Bhola, Borguna, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars will also come under danger signal number seven.

Maritime port of Chattogram has been advised to be hoisted danger signal number six as coastal districts of Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur and their offshore islands and chars will come under danger signal number six, the release detailed.

Maritime port of Cox’s Bazar has been advised to keep hoisting local warning signal number four.

Under the influence of ‘Fani’ and the new moon phase, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by storm surge of 2-4 feet height above normal astronomical tide.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
