Govt ready to minimise loss in cyclone ‘Fani’: Asaduzzaman

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today said the various government departments were ready to minimise losses of lives and properties during the cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ that could hit the coastal belts of the country on Friday afternoon.

“All departments including coast guard, police, BGB, local administrations and fire service and civil defence are on the high-alert to be engaged soon after hitting of ‘Fani’,” he told journalists after emerging a cabinet committee meeting on “Construction of secured building” at his Secretariat conference room in Dhaka, reports BSS.

The people in the coastal areas are facing natural calamities in almost every year, the minister said adding, “The government and its other organisations concerned are working together for minimising losses of lives and properties caused by the natural disasters.”

“Bangladesh has become role model in the world for disaster management… Many countries are now following Bangladesh as it has emerged as a disaster resilient country before the world for better management to face any disaster events like cyclone and flood,” he said.

Asaduzzaman mentioned that preparations have taken to keep the amount of losses are low by the cyclonic storm Fani. All the forces including fire service and civil defence, Ansar, Police and BGB have been asked to be ready and ensure security of the cyclone shelter centres.

He, however, said that if needed, the members of different forces will also be engaged to take part in the rescue operation within the shortest possible time. District administrations including the police department are continuously communicating with the upazila administrations.
