Four sued over killing blogger Niloy
A case was filed against four unidentified people in connection with the killing of blogger Niladri Chaterjee alias Niloy.
Ashamoni, wife of Niladri Chaterjee alias Niloy, filed the case against the four unidentified people with Khilgaon Police Station early Saturday, reports UNB.
Inspector (investigation) of the police station Anwar Hossain Khan was given the task of investigating the case.
Meanwhile, Ansar-Al-Islam, the Bangladesh chapter of al-Qaeda in the Indian Sub-Continent, has claimed responsibility for the killing of blogger Niloy.
Claiming the responsibility for the murder, an e-mail was sent to the media in Bangladesh from [email protected] several hours after the killing on Friday.
The email was issued by Mufti Abdullah Ashraf, who claimed himself to be the spokesman of Ansar-Al-Islam.
Blogger Niloy, a resident of a rented flat on the 4th floor of a multi-storey building at Goran in the capital, was hacked to death by a group of assailants on Friday afternoon.
Quoting witnesses, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Muntashirul Islam said a group of miscreants, numbering 5-6, entered the building at noon on the plea of renting a flat and then got into Niloy`s flat.
They kept his wife, younger sister and a housemaid confined to a room and then hacked Niloy to death taking him to another room.
The incident took place in between 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm.
The gangsters fled the scene leaving Niloy’s body in a pool of blood, the police official said.
Niloy used to express his thoughts and opinions through his Facebook ID: Niloy Neel.
Replying to a question, he said Niloy had been working in an NGO.
"We are yet to become sure whether he was a blogger. We are trying to confirm the matter," the DC (Media) added.
Meanwhile, Niloy was in the hit list of Farabi Shafiur Rahman, who was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion in March this year in connection with the killing of blogger Avijit Roy.
Avijit Roy, son of noted physicist Ajoy Roy and founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was killed and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya injured seriously as unidentified criminals stabbed them near TSC on the Dhaka University campus on February 26 this year.
The law enforcers suspected that Farabi has connection with banned Islamic outfit ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team’. He is now languishing in jail in connection with Avijit killing.
Niloy shared the hit list of Farabi through his Facebook account on August 3 where he wrote: “Farabi Hujurer Islam Biddeshider liste to Amar Namo Achhey, Iya Mabud, Rakkha Koro.” (My name is also in the hit list of anti-Islamists of Farabi. Oh God, protect me).
On May 15, Niloy posted another status through his Facebook account where he mentioned that two unidentified people were following him when he was returning home by a human hauler (tempo).
Though he went to a police station to register a general diary in this connection, the police station concerned declined to register the GD.
Earlier, on May 12, blogger Ananta Bijoy Das, also an activist of Sylhet Ganajagaran Mancha, was hacked to death by a group of assailants in broad daylight at Subidbazar Bankalapara in Sylhet city.
Besides, one month into the killing of popular blogger Avijit Roy, another blogger named Washiqur Rahman Babu was hacked to death by a group of assailants at Begunbari of Tejgoan industrial area of the city on March 30.
