Shab-e-Barat on April 21

Holy Shab-e-Barat, the night of fortune and forgiveness, will be observed in the country on April 21 as per the government’s previous announcement.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Advocate Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah said this at a press conference at his ministry in Dhaka today, reports BSS.

On April 6, the national moon sighting committee announced the date as the moon of the Arabic Shaban month was not sighted in the country on that day.

But confusion arose as a religious organization called ‘Majlisu Ruiyatil Hilal, all on a sudden claimed that the moon of the Shaban month had been sighted on April 6 in Khagrachari and the holy Shab-e-Barat should be observed on April 20.

To remove the confusion, an 11-member sub-committee was formed at a meeting of the national moon sighting committee on April 13.

“The decision to observe the holy Shab-e-Barat on April 21 remains unchanged as recommended by the sub-committee,” said the state minister.

Convenor of the sub-committee Maulana Mufti Muhammad Abdul Maleque was present at the press conference.
